Can Singapore Product Designers Turn Our Red Dot Green?

Orca Design GreenHouse Effect

It’s not often I get to give a big shout out to Singapore design that doesn’t involve Ts, sneaks or splattered-grunge-sampled-collage nightclub cards, but the global-minded product designers at Orca Design Consultants have updated their site with GreenHouse Effect, an exhibition they did exploring sustainability as part of the Singapore Design Festival 2007.

Two of my favourites are the Façade Vase, made of industrial felt to hide a plastic water bottle, and the Lullaby Plug that even a baby would understand how to use.

  • well it is reassuring to hear that designers are helping to do the 3Rs. seriously wishing that more people will learn to use less plastic bags.

  • Hiya Steff

Gawd… would you believe I actually had to BUY some plastic bags last week? I’ve been so good at the supermarket that I’ve totally run out of bags for my rubbish bin.

I looked in the supermarket for paper alternatives. NTUC didn’t have, but I’ll keep looking. If I can’t find any then that’s definitely something that someone should design.

  • Some really interesting concepts being explored there… I like the idea of a black-out lamp.

Somehow, it reminded me of a HK comedy in which some dude invented a solar-powered torch, that would only work if there was light. :)

  • hmm it would be interesting if someone made a petition to get supermarket selling reusable bags.
