My bags got x-rayed at Changi on the way in on Monday. Sorry, I don’t mean to sound incredulous about that, but I think it’s the first time ever. I’m not sure I’ve even actually seen customs people manning the machines before. I always thought they x-rayed them somewhere secret before you got them and people with suspect contents were discretely hauled away before they got to the doors.
It could have been the two bottles of wine I had in one of the bags, but I was within my duty free limit and now that you can’t take liquids on to planes you have to take your chances with wrapping your bottles in multiple t-shirts, checking them in and hoping for the best.
Anyway, one part of me wishes I’d discovered Evan Roth’s T.S.A. Communication project before I flew. They’re ultra-thin laser-cut sheets of stainless steel that block the x-ray and deliver a message at the same time.
The more practical part of me is glad I didn’t pull that stunt, because the bag was a mega-pain to zip shut and I was really glad they didn’t ask me to open it.
**sigh of relief**

maybe not easy to explain away…. but perhaps the uniformed officers might detect similar interests and offer to show their ’security probing equipment’

Of course, please observe all safety regulations and use approved sanitised high-temperature-resistant latex gloves.
