It seems everyone I know had a bit of a swirly end to 2008 and through into the beginning of 2009. It just seems like there’s a tempest of external forces, from the economy to weird weather patterns, and everyone is feeling the barrage in one way or another.

Moving from safe, comfortable, steady ground isn’t comfortable. In fact, I think for a lot of people it’s very angsty. We all know that life should be about living your passion, fulfilling your dreams, doing the things that make you happy, following your heart. But it’s often tough focusing on what those things are, and how you might get from where you are now to where you want to be.

So, I’m really pleased to point you in the direction of Life Dreaming, a fantastic workbook developed by my sister Liz, who’s posted it online free for anyone who’d like to try a gentle, methodical approach and some great practical tools.

Liz developed Life Dreaming some years ago as a way for women to spend some time in a nurturing environment, taking a step back from all the day-to-day stuff that surrounds us all, to focus on that journey to happiness.

It uses tools that Liz has honed and tested in her work helping non-profit and arts organisations to improve their management and some that she’s developed specially for this type of life planning. She’s used them with groups, with individuals and for herself.

The workbook is a small part of a much larger (and very exciting) course that will be available in about 6 months, but by “small part” I definitely don’t mean that it’s not filled with wonderful, helpful material. It’s a practical process all by itself and it might very well have all the material you’ll need to find some surprising insights about your life and create some valuable plans for the future. Since Liz put it online for anyone to download she’s had a stream of feedback about how helpful it has been.

Life’s busy and turbulent, and we all need to take a little time out for ourselves some times. If you spend an afternoon with Life Dreaming, I guarantee you’ll feel like you’ve nurtured yourself and done something good with your time.

And I know Liz would love your feedback, so if you do try it out, please do drop a comment on her blog or email her here and let her know what you thought. A lot of work is going into the extended program, which is going to be amazing, and your feedback will help to make it even better.

I’ll let you know when it launches!
